Macquarie IT picks a leaf from the Australian history with our name honoring the great Australian legend Governor Lachlan Macquarie - the reviver of Australia who turned a penal colony into a progressive economy.
Lachlan Macquarie, born on the islands of Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland, was educated at the Royal High School of Edinburgh. He started his journey with British Army starting in 1776 when he joined the 84th Regiment of Foot. His first leap towards glory was in January 1793 when he became a Freemason at Bombay (now Mumbai) in India. Since then it was only rising up for Macquarie who was ranked Major General in the year 1813.
A golden chapter was added in the Australian history in April 1809 when Macquarie was appointed the Governor of New South Wales. Being the first army commander chosen as a Governor he was expected to restore government and discipline in the colony. The Rum Rebellion against his predecessor William Bligh and the least of the cooperation from the unruly New South Wales Corps were his biggest challenges to surpass. The Macquarie era is a testimony to how well he crossed all the hurdles and gave a new status to the country.
Macquarie, also a skilled builder, served in North America, India and Egypt. Macquarie IT too has links with India with our founders having served in the subcontinent before they stepped in Australia - carrying the wealth of knowledge and experience along with the strong fundamentals that contribute towards our success.
Our affiliation with the name Macquarie is even more proven by the fact that our head office in Sydney, Australia is located on the very prestigious Macquarie Street - opposite to the State Library of New South Wales and the Parliament House, and within five minutes walking distance from the world famous Opera House.
